When your own brand is right

• You already know the category sells for you and you're doing the volume.
• You want the margin that comes with manufacturing rather than distributing.
• You're building something with resale value — a brand is an asset, a distribution route mostly isn't.
• You have the cash to sit on inventory and the appetite for the regulatory work that comes with being the product owner.

The sequence most people should follow

Start with ready stock. Learn which flavors and strengths actually move in your accounts, over a few months of real data. Then, if the volume justifies it, take that knowledge into a white label order and manufacture the things you already know sell. Going the other way round — guessing at tens of thousands of cans first — is how people end up with a garage full of bubblegum.

Doing both

Plenty of our customers run both: their own label for the core mints where they know the volume, and ready stock for the long tail of flavors that don't justify a production run. That's usually the mature version of this business.
